What in the world is a night latch?
| Two-Tone Night Latch with Slit Braids |
The "night latch" typically was a piece of rope tied around the pommel to keep cowboys on night watch from falling from their saddles while dozing. It also gives riders something to grab on to when things don't go well. It is more secure than grabbing the horn. Our night latches tie around the pommel like a bosal hanger or rope halter, eliminating the need for a buckle. They are tied securely in place, yet easy to remove, and are especially handy on saddles without horns.
